The viewing area at the top of the Gateway Arch can accommodate up to 160 people at a time. The 4-minute Tram Ride to the Top takes you to the viewing platform where 16 windows look out on downtown St. Louis, the Mississippi River, and Illinois. On clear days, the stunning views can extend up to 30 miles to the east and west.

The seven-story building was designed by St. Louis architect George W. Hellmuth and boasted the latest electric lighting technologies to highlight the sales floor. Furs were traded in the building until 1956. Next building of the arch st. louis door, the Caradine Hat Company occupied the ten-story Thomas Jefferson Building.
